2BAIT, Task 2, Journal 4

Today I finished editing my segment ‘Top Ten Tackles in History’. I looked through my NRL and NRL tackle montage videos to find another 4 great tackles to put in the video. After I found some good tackles I put them in order from best to worst (1-10) and then added some video affects to the timeline. I halved the time of the numbers in front of the tackles for numbers 6-10 because they ran for a couple of seconds too long, but I kept the last five at the same time because it grows anticipation; I also added in the affect ‘fade from black’ to the last 5 videos because it looks more filmic. After I put the clips in order I need to make a title screen ‘Top Ten Tackles in History’ so I opened up word and paint. I wrote up top ten tackles in history in word and set the font to the most historic font I could find and set the size to 100, I print screen the words and copied them into paint, I then spray painted a green/grey/brown tint over the writing so it looks aged. Before I started on the title screen I Googled ‘historic fonts’ to see if I could find a good font generator but to no avail; I found some reasonable fonts but you hade to download them, but they all featured double lines above/below the text so I put that in my title. Nathaniel was away so I’m not sure how far he’s gotten. Tomorrow If Nathaniel is at school we’ll discuss what we both have to finish on the weekend to have all the segments ready by Monday so we can start filming. I think we should be able to film everything in one period if we’re lucky (it’ll take 2 periods at most). Then it’s a matter of uploading the filming and editing it into our project and we’re finished.

2BAIT, Task 2, Journal 3

Today Nathaniel was back at school. I told him about how the videos turned out bad and we decided to start editing the bad quality videos because there is no way we can change the quality. I started cutting the best tackles out of a NRL and NFL tackle video. I found that most of the tackles on the tackle montages were a lot shorter that I would like so I decided to have atop 10 tackles segment instead of the top 5 we originally planned for. I needed to create a blank screen for the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 in front of the tackles so I went on to word, selected a good font for numbers and adjusted the size to 200; I then print screened and pasted the numbers into word were I changed the colours so they contrasted better and then individually saved the numbers. I then inserted the number pictures into my windows media project. Nathaniel is working on top 5 best sporting fights. We both decided to get rid of the Graham Polak injury update and replace it with a segment on retired AFL legend Sean McManus.

2B AIT, Task 2, Journal 2

Today Nathaniel and I had planned to go to the library to download the sporting videos needed on real player. Nathaniel wasn’t at school so I went to the library by myself. The first computer I logged on to didn’t have real player installed so I figured that all the library computers didn’t have real player apart from the couple I used them on before. I logged on the computer and clicked on real player, a prompt came up saying ‘connecting to real player server’, so I was hesitant the program would work. After opening my document with a list of URL’s containing the videos I opened a few videos and clicked on the download video tab. The first three videos I downloaded seemed to be downloading successfully until around the 5th video said ‘unable to download’; I figured it was just that video so I tried some others but now every video I tried to download displayed the same message. I decided to download the other videos at home so I opened My Videos>Real Player downloads and found that all the videos in my library were unrecognizable by windows. I’m unsure why windows can’t recognize the program that created the videos so I have decided to go home and download the videos, convert them and bring them to school on a USB so next lesson Nathaniel and I can edit them. I expect the editing to take at least 5 lessons so the last week Nathaniel and I will be filming. I plan on asking for an extension now because I can’t see Nathaniel and I finishing on time.

2B AIT, Task 2, Journal 1

Yesterday I got some feedback from Mr. Phillips about my last assignment. I lost 8 marks on the credits so I decided to go home and create some – I watched the credits at the end of a movie and wrote up the information (music by, producer, editor etc). I then emailed the assignment for re-submission. Since I was away Tuesday and Wednesday and I Nathaniel and I have 2 weeks to finish the assignment. Today Nathaniel and I searched for an online video stream downloader. The first one we looked at could only download into .Mp4 so when Nathaniel discovered www.mediaconverter.org we used that because you can change the resolution, format, size, bit rate etc. However, after we downloaded some videos we realized that the quality was very poor, and even after we set it to the highest resolution the quality was still horrible for full screen viewing. We now realize that we have to use real player to download the videos to a good resolution – the problem is that real player is only installed in the school library. Nathaniel and I have decided to go to the library next lesson and download and convert all our videos in one lesson so we can start cutting and editing next lesson. After we have got the correct videos for the segment we can start to film and record our commentaries. Since we only have 2 weeks left I don’t think most of the class will finish on time, in about a week Nathaniel and I will review our situation and if we don’t think we will finish on time we’ll ask for an extension – instead of risking loosing marks.

2B, Task 1, Journal 6

Today is Friday and task 1 is due. Last night I emailed Nathaniel my finished half of the storyboard along with the script so he could put it into his work today. I’m not at school today because of a cold so I haven’t been able to get Nathaniel’s storyboard to put into my work. Nathaniel emailed me saying he won’t be finished before 5pm and that he has talked to Mr. Philips – however it didn’t say what he talked to him about so I don’t know if we could be losing marks for this. I plan on sending my assignment to Mr. Philips today anyway and where the second part of the storyboard should be I will have ‘refer to Nathaniel’s assignment’. When Nathaniel finishes the work and emails it to me I may re-send the work to Mr. Philips so he can to see all the work in one document. Other than this everything in the assignment is finished and all I have to do is insert this journal.
